For those unfamiliar with Davao events and festivities, August is the month of the Kadayawan Festival. The event showcases the city’s cultural heritage and bountiful harvests, celebrating in gratitude for the blessings given to the city.
Dabawenyos eagerly await the month of August to join in the festivities. The month is peppered with various events and activities, but the major events are usually scheduled in the middle of August.
We always have fond memories of the Kadayawan celebration. Hubby, for instance, has joined the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan with his batchmates in Philippine Science High School – Southern Mindanao Campus. He says they were all barefoot throughout the entire routine, dancing all the way from C.M. Recto Street to Rizal Park!
Some of the highlights during the Kadayawan festival include:
- Hiyas sa Kadayawan, a beauty pageant that focuses on the Lumads and their unique traditions
- Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan, a colorful and lively street dancing competition
- Pamulak Kadayawan, the annual parade of flowers that the city is truly proud of
This post serves as a reminder, so you better mark your calendars now. See you in the streets!
