More than twelve years after it was enacted, Davao City’s anti-smoking law is still going strong and is now reported to be an unexpected source of revenue for the city.
Davao City’s stringent anti-smoking ordinance was able to generate more than P3.2 million between June 2013 and March 2015, all of which came from fines and penalties paid by violators. This was announced by the city government as reported by Manila Bulletin. Roughly 4,000 violators are apprehended each year, according to the local government.
During his weekly TV show “Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa”, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte announced that part of the amount will be allocated for treatment programs focused on children with cancer.
Another reason to love Davao! 🙂 ♥
