The film ‘Engkwentro’, produced and directed by young filmmaker Pepe Diokno, bagged the top prize in the Orizzonti (New Horizons) section of the 66th Venice International Film Festival. It also won the Luigi De Laurentiis (Lion of the Future) award, which comes with a cash prize of $100,000.
‘Engkwentro‘ is said to be about the Davao Death Squad. Although Diokno has already said that his film is not only about what is happening in Davao and asserted that it is about a “national problem”, the film’s official website contains links to news articles about the Davao Death Squad and its movie trailer, which you can view below, contains the image of the mayor of Davao City.
kuyawa oi! naa na movie about sa DDS?!? astig. hehe…
I have cousins in Davao. I’ll tell them to watch this. 😀
We’re not so sure kung ipinalabas ito sa Davao. It was supposed to be released last July. Pero since Indie film, baka hindi umabot dito, especially with its controversial topic.
We first wrote about it last March here —
