Four years ago, Wifey and I worked in a sugar manufacturing plant in Matalam, North Cotabato. The place was virtually devoid of an urban atmosphere. In fact, the most modern facility in the area was a small resort and the town market.
The nearest vicinity offering an urban setting is Kidapawan City. Fortunately, the city was able to house a semi-upscale restaurant called Simon and Benedict’s Pizza House. We frequented this place because of its uniquely prepared dishes. Nothing looked “commercial” in the restaurant’s food — from the hand-tossed pizzas to the easy-to-prepare pasta selections. In short, Pizza House offered the best food in that part of Mindanao.
Fast forward to the present: We’re now back in Davao City, and back to the urban lifestyle we have been used to. As fate would have it, the famous Kidapawan restaurant has reached our shores, and has planted its roots in Bo. Obrero as Boyd’s Pizza House.
The first time we rushed to the restaurant was on a Sunday. Sadly, it was closed on Sundays. On our next visit, we made sure that it was on a weekday.
When we finally landed on their doorstep, there were only two things that I wanted to stuff in my mouth immediately: Meaty Jeff Pizza, and Garlic Loaf Bread! That’s what we ordered, along with Johan’s Special (white sauce pizza with mushrooms and roasted chicken) and Isaac’s Pasta (penne in white sauce with mushrooms, chicken, herbs, and parmesan cheese).
Here’s a blow-by-blow account of our verdict on the dishes:
- Isaac’s Pasta (P105) coated my mouth with the succulent richness of white sauce and parmesan cheese. The chicken flavor was complemented by perfectly chosen herbs and spices. A winner indeed!
- Meaty Jeff Special (P305) packed a mean punch in terms of flavor and stuffing the stomach. It’s a heavy meat-laden pizza that is best for super-hungry people.
- Johan’s Special (P145) is a one-of-a-kind pizza because of its toppings: roasted chicken and white sauce. It’s the pizza version of Isaac’s Pasta.
- Garlic Loaf Bread (P65) is another unique selection from Boyd’s Pizza House. Nowhere in Davao can you find a garlic bread that’s really loaded with real garlic. (I bet no aswang can survive the intense garlic flavor of the loaf bread!)
While their food is superb, the resto’s interior is something that the owners should take a look into. The restaurant looks like an upgraded carenderia, with weak tables and a number of monobloc chairs cramping its style. In fact, we were seated next to their stock cabinet! I can still remember their original Kidapawan spot, and it looked more upscale then.
Meanwhile, their service crew was friendly and accommodating, but only two waiters were present when we visited the place. It was a packed lunchtime. and the waiters found it difficult to address all of their clients’ concerns.
Nevertheless, we’re willing to forgive their lapses because they’re still relatively new in the city after all. Just the sheer pleasure of experiencing the flavors in Boyd’s Pizza House makes us forget the kinks.

Hi Jerard Boyd. That’s good news! Thanks for dropping by. 🙂
I encountered their Kidapawan location on foot while looking for something completely unrelated. Remembering the positing, I stopped in. Asked for their delivery menu: “Wala”
One minute glance of their dine-in menu shows like 4 very limited choices, barely the basics. I might try again since I live here now, but surely their first impression is extremely lacking. In comparilson, (due to very positive experience in pre-relocation) “Calda Pizza” is the very varied and ‘masarap’ opposite’. I had hoped based on the commentary that Boyd might be an alternative variety, but … sigh.
Further to this, I note that the staff are very nice people and were kind to write their landline# on paper for me since they have no delivery menu. Problem is, Boyds lacks product (Pizza) for me to order! Recommended pizza place with nothing beyond very basic pepperoni pizza to order – and anything larger than 10″ is clearly marked as NOT AVAILABLE? Mag-Sigh. I have a family to feed, I’m hugry too, and I want magsurap mag_MALAKIT (not 10″!) pepperoni-only pizza. Sigh, another week and my stuff will arrive fron the other province and I will find the bakery wholesale outlet and go palengke for the ingerdients and make my own overloaded masarap pizza. In the meantime, I’ll call Calda for 20″ pizza#5 in one week and it’s yummy and *exists*. The web reviews for this Boyds alternative are way off-base to the reality. I’ll check back in person in a month or so. Perhaps they will have a decent offering soon. So dissapoointed that they don’t even have some combo pizza including lahat or even marginally close.
Boyds kidapawan branch..5 reasons why ayaw ko sa place nyo.. 1.) Hindi maganda customer service, very unproffesional staff nyo. 4.) Ang init ng store nyo at very untidy. 5.) always not available ang menu kahit kokonti nalang nga… ewan ewan… not really happy kasi i once brought my friend who just came from uk at pinagyabang ko shop nyo, so embarrasing talaga kasi opposite lahat ng sinabi ko. hay ano ba yan boyds,
Sad to learn that your visits to Boyds in Kidapawan were not pleasant. Ed and tagaKidapawan. =(
The last time we’ve been to Boyds Kidapawan was 6 or 7 years ago. We hope that Boyds can check their Kidapawan branch and address customer concerns. Sayang naman.
