We visited the People’s Park last night. It was opened last December to be the ultimate park for Dabawenyos, and it is indeed a nice park found right in the middle of the city.
It’s a free park. Although you have to fall in line upon entering, it’s not for paying entrance fees, but for checking bags to ensure public security. We also saw a number of security personnel on bikes and with hand-held radios. Their presence actually makes you feel safe inside the park.
The park has a durian-shaped dome, a playground, a 10-m waterfalls, a sunken garden, a forest area and a wide picnic area. Also, while inside the park, you can enjoy a nice view of the towering buildings of the Apo View Hotel, the Royal Mandaya Hotel and the Marco Polo Hotel.
They don’t allow vendors inside the park, but you’ll find lots of food to feast on within a few steps from the gate. Being conveniently located at the heart of the city, the park is just a brief walk to establishments like Gaisano South Mall, Felcris Supermarket, Davao Doctors Hospital, Limso Medical Center, Casino Filipino and several banking institutions.
